Care After Exercise:
When caring for a horse after exercise it is important to remember to make sure the horse’s heart rate returns to it’s normal state. A resting heart rate of a horse is from 28-40 beats a minute and respiratory rate is 10-24 breaths a minute. Cooling a horse down after exercise will prevent illnesses from happening.
How To:
-Remove all tack after working
-Walk horse until dry or no longer hot and breathing heavy
-Hose or bath after if needed
-If the horse isn’t too sweaty, use a sweat scrapper to remove sweat
-Groom the horse and pick its feet
-Put a cooler on the horse if need be
-Place back in the stall and make sure the horse has plenty of water
