- I like to start out brushing my horse with the curry comb. This brush is usually made of stiff rubber and is used to remove dirt chunks. Use this brush in a quick circular motion and never use on the legs. This is hurt the tendons and ligaments so restrict use to only on the body and neck.
- Next grab the stiff brush to remove any dust left behind from the curry comb. Use short flicking motions and start from the neck down. This brush may be used on the legs.
- After the stiff brush, grab the soft brush. This will add any finishing touches to the coat and remove any left over dust.
- If your horse has any dirt on his face grab the face brush. This brush is usually super soft and gentle. So this is OK to use around the eyes.
- Next, start picking out the hooves with the hoof pick. I prefer to use one that have bristles at the end. Using a hoof pick can be kind of tricky. You need to be able to carefully remove all the dirt, but this can be somewhat hard. Most of the time the dirt gets packed into the hoof making it hard to remove. After all dirt is removed from the hoof, use the brush end to make sure the hoof is extra clean.
- Lastly, I like to brush the mane and tail. I recommend doing this as often as you can to make sure the mane and tail stay tangle free. This also makes is easier on you. If the mane and tail are super tangly use a detangler spray to break up the tangles.
